畢業後可留澳工作，毋須先有僱主聘用。一般申請年齡為 35 歲或以下；以研究式碩士或博士學位符合修業要求的人，以及持香港特區護照或 BNO 護照人士，年齡上限放寬至 50 歲以下。內政部另指出，來自香港的臨時畢業生簽證持有人 5 年後可能有永久居留途徑；該途徑是 Skilled Independent（subclass 189）香港類別，申請時須持有合資格的 457、482 或 485 簽證滿 4 年，並在澳洲連續居住滿 4 年。實際條件以內政部公布為準。

香港特區護照
持香港特區護照的人申請臨時畢業生簽證（485類別），最長可留澳 5 年。其他申請人按學位程度獲 2 年或 3 年。

You must hold a Hong Kong or British National (Overseas) passport at the time your visa application is made. You must hold an eligible visa at the time your visa application is made, and you must have held that visa for at least 4 years prior to that date. An eligible visa is a subclass 457, 482 or 485 visa that was granted to you on the basis of satisfying the primary criteria. You must have been usually resident in Australia for a continuous period of at least 4 years immediately before the date of your application.
BNO 護照
持 BNO 護照的人申請臨時畢業生簽證（485類別），最長可留澳 5 年。其他申請人按學位程度獲 2 年或 3 年。
