美國沒有等同英國 Graduate visa 或澳洲 485 的畢業後工作簽證。畢業生要留在美國工作，須以 F-1 學生身分申請 OPT 工作許可。申請先由學校的 DSO 在 SEVIS 提出建議，你要在建議發出後 30 日內向 USCIS 遞交 Form I-765；最早可在畢業前 90 日遞交，最遲畢業後 60 日。STEM 學位要多申請那 24 個月，僱主必須已登記並正在使用 E-Verify，你修讀的學位亦要在 STEM Designated Degree Program List 之內。Form I-765 的申請費，USCIS 的收費表列明網上遞交為 US$470，郵寄遞交為 US$520。國土安全部的 Study in the States 頁面列明，post-completion OPT 期間的累計失業日數上限為 90 日；連同 STEM OPT 計算則為 150 日，當中包括 post-completion OPT 期間已累積的日數。實際條件以美國政府公布為準。

BNO 護照
學生簽證
國務院列明 BNO 護照按香港的互惠安排處理，F-1 學生簽證為多次入境、有效期 60 個月、不收互惠費用，與持香港特區護照相同。BNO 身分本身不符合免簽證計劃（VWP）資格。

British National Overseas (BNO) Passport: This passport lists the holder's nationality as "British National Overseas." It is issued to persons with the right of abode in Hong Kong whom British authorities consider British nationals. The BNO does not have the same rights as a regular United Kingdom passport. ... They are also not eligible to use the U.S. Visa Waiver Pilot Program. Hong Kong visa reciprocity should be followed for BNO passport holders. Hong Kong schedule, visa class F-1: Fee None, Number of Entries Multiple, Validity Period 60 Months. United Kingdom schedule: 'British National (Overseas) - BN(O) | No | BN(O) status alone does not qualify.'

學生簽證
台灣在美國免簽證計劃（VWP）的名單之內，但該計劃不容許修讀學分課程。持台灣護照來美國讀學位，仍然要申請 F-1 學生簽證。

Travel Purposes Not Permitted on Visa Waiver Program - Examples: study, for credit; employment; work as foreign press, radio, film, journalists, or other information media; permanent residence in the United States. The only study-like activity allowed under Tourism is 'enrollment in a short recreational course of study, not for credit toward a degree (for example, a two-day cooking class while on vacation)'. Taiwan appears on the list under 'You must be a citizen or national of the following countries to be eligible to travel to the United States under the VWP.'
